The Drive Methodist Church, Ilford

Mission Statement

The Drive Methodist Church aims to be faithful to the commandments of Jesus and the calling of The Methodist Church.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said: 'Our Lord Jesus Christ said: The first commandment is, "Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength." The second is this, "You shall love your neighbour as yourself." There is no other commandment greater than these.' 'I give you a new commandment, that you love one another just as I have loved you'

The calling of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of God's love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.

In seeking to be faithful to these aims The Drive Methodist Church is committed to:

  1. Providing a weekly opportunity for all people to worship God in Christ through the Spirit by:
    1. Sustaining a high quality provision of worship which allows people to express awe and wonder, thankfulness and praise, and love towards God.
    2. Delivering a range of worship styles that include traditional, world church and contemporary.
    3. Ensuring the inclusiveness of all whether it be age, ethnic origin, gender, or physical ability.
    4. Ensuring a welcome to all first time and occasional attendees and providing guidance to those unfamiliar with our patterns of worship.
    5. Providing a safe, warm, comfortable and pleasant environment.
  2. Enabling people to grow and learn as Christians, through mutual support and care by:
    1. Maintaining a system of pastoral oversight of all members and adherents.
    2. Sustaining the work of the Junior Church and providing its leadership with good resources.
    3. Providing services of Baptism, Christian Weddings and Funerals.
    4. Maintaining pastoral contact, through the cradle roll, with those who bring children to be Baptised.
  3. Being a good neighbour by:
    1. Supporting those in the church who serve others in the neighbourhood and community through their work and voluntary commitments.
    2. Making donations to charitable causes through communion offerings, 'special envelope' collections and responses to appeals.
    3. Supporting the wider work of The Methodist Church through direct giving, and supporting JMA collectors.
    4. Exercising a ministry of hospitality by providing building usage for community groups and activities.
    5. Supporting and sustaining the work of the Uniformed Organisations that meet on the premises.
  4. Sharing our Faith with others by:
    1. Developing a programme of church activities suitable to a range of commitment levels.
    2. Maintaining relationships with churches in the neighbourhood.
    3. Adopting a strategy of pastoral integration for newcomers.
    4. Raising the profile of the church and its activities within the community.
    5. Developing a strategy of effective communication with church building users.
